In January we launched our very first #20Jobs class in collaboration with Good Things, a nonprofit focused on workforce development. This extracurricular program introduces the spectrum of careers within the footwear industry by allowing the students to participate in every step of the sneakers they will be able to wear.

This innovative approach to hands on occasion and entrepreneurship is at the heart of the BOSS curriculum. These students want an opportunity to learn and work in a world bigger than themselves.

BOSS is one of the only New York State-approved CTE programs to focus on sports business. Students fulfill the Virtual Enterprise (VE) program sequence, which offers students a full CTE Business Entrepreneurship curriculum that includes industry certification in Microsoft applications, national and international expositions, in-depth business simulations and competitions, and college-level business classes, culminating in a New York State endorsement in Business and Marketing. In 2013, the New York State Business Teachers Association awarded BOSS New York City Business Department of the Year (under 500 students). In 2020, BOSS was selected as a NAF “Distinguished Academy of Finance.”

The students and teachers are designing, developing, promoting and selling their own shoes. This project introduces all of the participants to the broad range of opportunities in the sneaker industry beyond design, retail and influencer by providing engaging in all of the facets of the industry. The Career & Technical Educational school and workforce development nonprofit create the perfect environment to have a battle between students and teachers.

The Students voted on their classmate's design because they wanted something fashionable and comfortable. The Teacher's voted on their coworker's design because they wanted something that promoted BOSS and learning.
